vocabulary templates and examples

My students will increase/show growth in their percentage of vocabulary words correct from 57% at the beginning of the school year to 85 % by May (end of unit 7 assessment) as measured by LEAD 21 end of unit differentiated assessments.

Through LEAD 21 activities and guiding students to work with a researched base 4 square word map, I feel students have shown nice progress with vocabulary words this past school year. We really did not spend a whole lot of time engaged with these words other than what was called for in the lesson plans. Students only completed the word map with our themed vocabulary words in which they completed them independently and then had opportunities to discuss the words with classmates.
Students were also given differentiated vocabulary words each week. With these words (6-8 each week), students were responsible to find the definitions and be able to use those words in sentences. Once a week, we would briefly discuss these words in relation to student's differentiated stories in which we discussed synonyms and antonyms of the words.
With about 30 differentiated words and 7 themed vocabulary words per unit, we did not know what words would be assessed on the end of the unit assessment. My students have done a nice job in implementing strategies and working with the various activities in class to show considerable progress on their end of unit assessments.
