Energy Bus

Over the course of the last month, I have placed a few rules from The Energy Bus around my classroom door. I have been surprised with the number of questions and comments about our mini posters. A few colleagues (both teachers and aides) have then asked about the book. A few have even looked into checking it out. I also have shared things with grade level colleagues and passed on the book for them to read.

Taken from an e-mail titled Positive Tip: 11 ways to build trust, one tip reminds us of the importance in communicating. "Communicate, communicate, communicate. Frequent, honest communication builds trust. Poor communication is one of the key reasons marriages and work relationships fall apart." That tip is so true in all aspects of life. With our students, parents, co-workers, boss, and other people who we encounter each day.

I have a couple of students who are struggling with school  mostly due to behavior problems in and out of the classroom. I am making a comittment to touch base with these students weekly in regards to communicating expectations both in and out of the classroom. I have been attempting this in the past but I need to continue to work in communicating with these students. This morning I took one of the boys aside and told him once again that I believed in him and was going to continue to work hard to get him back on track. It seemed to be exactly what he needed as he had one of his better days in the past month.

The ability to communicate is so important between students as well. They need to be able to be honest and use there words in a kind manner with other classmates. The school year has gone fast and I am hoping to be able to continue working towards our individual Energy bus goals as well as continue our ongoing discussions about the book.
