Addition and subtraction data

I will increase my student's automaticity of addition facts and subtraction facts to help them show growth by the end of the 2010-2011 school year.

Over the course of the past few months, I have tried a number of activities to help students become more fluent with addition and subtraction facts. We are still not where I want my students to be be but so far they have made nice progress since December on addition and subtraction written assessments. Students engaged in daily Investigation's activities and discussions, flash cards, on line computer activities, and a  number of math games in order to improve fluency with basic facts. As individual data seems to be mixed, I seem to think that each child is different and there seems to be different ways that lead to fluency with addition facts. I noticed a few of my students improved through the use of flash cards while others made huge gains with addition and subtraction games. However, a few students showed little or no gains with many of the things we have spent time engaged in the past several months. Those are the students I would like to continue to work with and help them improve their fluency with basic facts. Is it daily practice that plays a large role in student progress? For some yes but others may need additional strategies and interventions to assist in becoming more fluent.
