Math Facts Progress

I do know that my students have a ways to go with their math facts. However, I have been very pleased with the work and efforts they have been given with math games. We took another 2 minute timed test today (as a few students have been asking to try a 2 minute one). In looking at the data, students have continued to show progress from earlier this school year.
The class' mean is 42.17 facts per minute. Both the mode and median are 46, which was up from 41.
Last year's class in February had a class mean of 21 facts per minute and their class mean was 22.
Once again, I know they are different classes but the results are more than double of last year's class. I have been surprised that the numbers have been that alarming.

Are my students fluent? We are not there yet but many have a good start and I am excited where we can go in the coming months. Now it is continuing to find math games that will keep students' interest as well as keep them on the path to becoming quicker with their facts.

I have dug into my data and have seen some nice gains. I actually started to write the longer version of the paper but as I reviewed it I am now feeling that I should share and present it with my colleagues. It will be a last minute game time decision as to what I will do.

  1. Tony,
That's funny that you talked me into writing the paper and now you are debating the presentation.
