The first few days of school have been fun this year. We are beginning slowly and taking baby steps with many things. Modeling, modeling, and more modeling is a key in my classroom this year. I have spent a lot of time doing read aloud, discussing hopes and dreams, and completing Y-charts. The Y-Charts consist of how does it look? feel? and sound?Today, each student chose a hope/dream of something he or she would like to accomplish this school year. My goal is to post them on the bulletin board along with a picture and the child's parental hope and dream. The students seemed excited to write theirs on special paper and have the opportunity to decorate it.
Tomorrow, we will have the discussion of class rules and try to brainstorm ideas for what they will be. So far it seems to be "Be Safe and Have Fun!" We are trying to have fun but giving placement reading assessments and math assessments in the first few days really are not fun for the students.
I am excited to develop rules as well as continue to build routines with my students. We are off to a great start and I am excited for the school year. I have a quite a few busy bodies but I hope to incorporate MeMoves with my class this year to help them calm down and focus.
