As semester II begins, I feel it has been an extremely busy school year thus far which has led to some negative attitudes on my own part as well as colleagues. I started reading The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon and found it to be an easy read. My grade levels theme has been focusing around the idea of a positive attitude for the past month and this book related so much to us. After I started reading the book, it was difficult for me to put down as I felt a connection to the character in the book. At times, I have been negative as well as my colleagues.
Be your own bus driver. I have started trying to take more of a positive and joyful attitude with colleagues as well as students.
Why has this school year led to colleagues being more negative than usual? What can I do help colleagues turn their negativity into being more positive?
I have shared some of my reading with them and some of them are curious about the book. If I have heard a negative comment or statement this past week, I have tried to turn it into a positive one. I can truly make a difference. So far, a few things have stood out to me. One being that of a thank you walk which was mentioned in the book. Not that I go for a long period of time, but when I move in my school I try to think of positive things and things that I am thankful for. Another is that of fueling my ride with positive energy. I have been trying to dwell on good things in my life and positive things that happen during the day.
For some reason the following quote by Abraham Lincoln is one that made me stop and think. I like it!
I am not bound to win, I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to the light that I have. - Abraham Lincoln
