Parent Communication

I will communicate with parents through phone calls, e-mails, notes or in person at least once a month throughout the 2010-2011 school year so that parents are better informed of their child's progress in the classroom.
In reflecting on my parent communication smart goal, I have logged quite a bit of time this past semester working on trying to meet this goal. It has led me to think about some of the information I share and the purpose of it. I have been trying to share more information about each child with parents and making the information more specific to each child.
So far, I have been communicating with parents through e-mail, phone conversations, written communication, as well as progress reports. My goal was set up to communicate with parents at least once a month but I have been trying to communicate bi-weekly (twice a month). It has taken more time than I had hoped but hopefully has helped with parental understanding of some things we do at school.
I have received some feedback from parents thanking me for their child's reports, but I am wondering if they are finding the reports beneficial. Do I create a survey in which I ask for feedback to see how parents feel about the reports? What can I do to have more parents give me feedback? Are all parents even receiving them? How do I even know they read the report?
In addition to progress reports, I have been trying to add more ideas and skill work information in my monthly and weekly newsletters I send home. I am hoping parents can have those conversations with their child and check to see what the child can share at home.
It has been time consuming, but I am hoping the commitment and importance I have placed with communication will impact both students and myself.
