The Energy Bus

As I started reading The Energy Bus, I was very excited and willing to turn my attitude and class around. I was extremely positive in trying to take the necessary steps to become my own bus driver and remain positive. However, it was difficult for me to do. I would go a few days remaining positive and enthusiastic about my job and students, but I have let a few of my energy vampires and busy schedule let my bus break down and have short delays. It was experience problems and not running very well.

With having a full day to catch up and work on things, my bus has been repaired and it is fueled up and ready for the 2nd half of the school year. As a class, we have been talking about each child being his/her own bus driver and having a distinct goal in mind. We have briefly touched on our "Hopes and Dream" but I will have to take time students to revisit them. Students will then be able to create a new hope and dream or continue on with the one already made. Visuals will now be placed on their desk in hopes of being a daily reminder.

Two weeks ago my class started to reflect on our day and try to take at least one positive from the school day. With our "busy and hectic" schedule it was difficult to do. It lasted a few days and I found it very difficult to do every day. I need to take time and have students write or verbally share these thoughts/ideas.If I feel it is important in creating more positivity I need to take the time to fit it in.
My next step is to have students fill in their own mini school bus as well as revisit their hope and dream from earlier in the year. Then we will take time a couple days a week reflecting on something positive from the day.

  1. I hope you do continue to take time to find positives! What if you did it every week rather than every day? I'm sure your days are "busy and hectic," but you can help your students focus on the great things that are happening in their lives, and I think many students can't (or don't know how to) do this by themselves.

  2. I agree with Amanda. Visiting the positives once a week would still be focusing on the good. It would be a nice way to wrap up the week and hopefully excite them for the week to come.
