Mini Action Research - Transitions

After looking through my best practice book, Teach Like a Champion by Doug Lemov, I have been thinking about the concept of tight transitions. I have a few busy boys and transition time has been difficult for them in following directions, making good choices, and wasted time. Some questions I have been asking are; how can I eliminate behavior problems and off task behaviors during transition time? How can I improve transition time? How can I eliminate extra time during transitions to make effective use of more class time?
Most of my class understands their role and task in moving from lessons in the classroom to simply lining up and moving to another location in the school.
I feel my students as well as  myself can make better use of our time throughout the school day. Lemov discusses the technique of tight transitions being an important piece of an effective classroom. He also mentions the use of scaffolding the steps for students and teaching them to follow the route one step at a time. Through these idea I hope to improve our speed as well as eliminate some of the unwanted behavior problems with a few of my students.
One of the steps I have started doing is recording how long our transitions in the classroom have been taking us to complete. I then plan on attempting some of Lemov's ideas that he discusses and hopefully seeing some nice progress with my students with speed, orderliness, and behavior problems.
I have spent time researching articles but have struggled in finding an article I am interested in and also relates to my idea. I am currently looking at an article that relates to high school transition time titled, Using Performance Feedback to Decrease Classroom Transition Time and Examine Collateral Effects on Academic Achievement.
I still need to think about how I can record data and effectively show how it impacted my students. I don't feel timing my students during transition times to be enough for the collecting of data process. What else can I do or collect in this process?
