The Power of Question

I really struggled with reading these 3 chapters.  I at first thought it was going to give me some great ideas and a better understanding of teacher research, however, it was difficult to read it.  I had to reread some ideas a few times.  I wrote down a few things that excite me and bother me.

Bother me -
*I am struggling to find the time to fully cover all important ideas and skills within our new reading series.  I feel that I am missing some important components as time does not allow me to get to everything.  Along those lines, my struggling readers have difficulty in completing many of the tasks without my assistance or that of another student.  How can I help my other students when I continually have 3-4 that need all my attention?
*I have a talkative group of boys.  I have a few students who spend a lot of time in take a break and are continuously interrupting the class. I am wondering what kinds of strategies can I implement to get students more excited about learning?  If students spend more than 2 times in take a break, they are starting to owe me some recess time and I am the one who has to give up my own time - shorter lunch or shorter prep time watching them.  I think keeping in better contact with parents will help this out a bit.
*I have many students who have a poor pencil grip and can not print very neatly.  Many students have had to redo assignments as their work has been not easy to read.

Excite me -
*Our new reading series offers great stories that sparks students' interests and excites them to read.  We spend a lot of time making self, text, and world connections and sharing those with classmates.  I wished we had more time to share and discuss more of those connections though.
*Having a Promethean board in the classroom.  My students spend some time during small group time working with spelling word flip charts and other websites.  They are excited to be able to work with this technology.
*I have established some daily 5 components and find the students do a great job in doing them.  I am wondering how I can incorporate more of those ideas/components into my reading block and still meet the needs of our reading curriculum.
