Intervention Tier 1 - behavior intervention best practice

I have a student who is off task, disruptive, and has difficulty in completing work. I took a look at the behavior interventions from interventioncentral.org and choose the "Rubber Band Challenge" intervention to increase my student's time on task as well as reducing disruptive behavior. This challenge creates a visual with the student in using rubber bands (I have chose 5) on the teacher's wrist. If the student is off task or engaged in an inappropriate choice, the teacher moves one rubber band to the other wrist. Within a 30 minute block of time, the student's goal should be to have more than one rubber band on the beginning wrist. The student and teacher set a goal/reward in which the student is given points for having at least one rubber band remaining. However, I have set up a system to give the student a point for each rubber band remaining. I will give it a try. The program calls for one point if one rubber band remains but we are starting it a little different.
Right now the student has chosen a reward and his/her goal is to earn 15 points. After 2 days of implementation, he/she has earned 8 points out of 45. I started with a smaller goal to allow the student to experience slight success, than plan on reducing the number of rubber bands, increase the number of points, or even increase the amount of time from 30 minutes.

I tried the first day to make it through an entire class period of 45 minutes to one hour. However, it was difficult for the student to make it the entire class period. So I do see the need to keep it at 30 minutes and review progress with student. One day 2, the student had five 30 minute opportunities to keep 5 rubber bands. On day 2, he was able to keep one rubber band on 2 of 5 attempts. His total was 5 rubber bands out of 25 that day. This student displays a large amount of time in off task behavior as well as disrupting the class which he struggles in completing school work. I am hoping he will be able to reduce the amount of off task and disrutive behavior.
