- Identifying numbers to 1,000 - read and write #'s to 1,000 using base 10 (number names and expanded notation)
- Adding or subtracting #'s to 1,000
- Adding up to 4 two-digit numbers
- Using symbols for unknown numbers (21=14 + x)
- Partitioning shapes
- Fluently add and subtract within 20 (*sums of all 2 one digit numbers)
- Telling time to the nearest five minutes
The biggest obstacle is pacing. We are suppose to get through our curriculum each year. However, each year it seems that there is more and more to cover or the target level in increased. Investigations is a spiral curriculum in which it returns to prior skills that were taught. instead of spending a few days on the topic/skills it is important for us to continue with the curriculum so we can cover all the material. We have spent time discussing this as a grade level team. We feel it is important to continue on. This idea has been difficult for a few teachers as some want to slow down and spend more time on certain skills. However in doing this, certain teachers do not cover all material that is essential to meet the common core or state standards.
At the moment, our goal is to continue on with our curriculum in hopes of completing all units. I see pros and cons to both situations.
