The last week in July I attended a Responsive Classroom training. Even though I have been using the Responsive Classroom approach with my students, I still found it valuable and gained many new ideas. Teacher Language is crucial in setting up a respectful classroom especially the use of positive language.
This school year I will continue to implement components of this program but hope to do things better than in years past. The presenter of the workshop does not set up the classroom before school begins, however, within the first weeks of school the students and the teacher create/post everything in their classroom. Sometime I would like to try this idea from the first day of school and see how it goes.
I am excited to do a better job in establishing logical consequences with students as well as hopes and dreams. Last year was a challenging year but with my new knowledge I am hoping to work harder to make it a better year.
One thing I am still wondering about is the presenter said he very rarely makes parent calls and students never miss recess time. I have been guilty of having students miss recess time but coming up with a more logical consequence has been difficult. I am excited for the upcoming school year and hope I can build a respectful, safe, and caring environment.
Where was this training held at?
