Smart Goal - Communication Survey and Results

In looking back at one of my smart goals parent communication, I feel I have placed a large amount of time in communicating with parents this year. I communicated with parents through e-mail, phone conversations, in person, written notes, newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, as well as through my class web page. Despite communicating in a variety of ways, I placed a large amount of time in creating monthly progress reports in which I communicated a few things we were working on in the classroom. I then created a survey in which I wanted to see how parents felt about communication this year. The survey is below along with the results.

*I sent out the survey using surveymonkey.com. I then sent out the survey electronically to many parents that I communicated via e-mail. I also made accommodations for other families by printing out the survey and have them complete it on a paper version. I had 15 out of 19 parents complete the survey.

8. In what way(s) can I better improve the progress report format or communication with parents?

A. I think the report card/quarterly report that was sent home is fine. Also the monthly reports are great.
If my child was not doing well then a note or phone call on top of the monthly report would be good.
B. It's been great!
C. I think you are doing a great job!
D. I happen to like the report very much the way it is. It is direct and easy to read. Any questions
I have are always answered in a simple follow up email.
E. Actually, we think this was really nice. We've never experienced such frequent communication
(with the monthly progress reports) from any other teacher. I was actually shocked to get those
monthly reports. Usually you just hear from the teacher if there is something bad, or something
that needs improvement. But with Will, even if he's doing great, you let us know that - monthly.
It's been really great, and it tells us that you take your job seriously and actually want the parents
to know how the child is doing, regardless of that progress.
F. I think the communication was very effective.
G. We would've used the classroom website more if it was updated frequently. I didn't find it useful,
but I liked the excellent websites that were recommended.

9. Additional comments or questions:

D. You're one of the best teachers we've had yet!
F. Keep doing an awesome job! Jacob loved having you as his 2nd grade teacher!
